Project Objectives
To entertain and educate viewers about the historical and technological significance of Roebling Bridge through an exclusive tour of the suspension cables room. The video was part of a web series accompanying a nationally aired PBS documentary.
Challenges and Solutions
The client was concerned that the original footage as filmed lacked educational impact, because the host’s dialogue focused on personal anecdotes and did not explain the bridge’s engineering. Additionally, the host inaccurately described the function of the suspension cables. My task was to transform this raw material into a more accurate and educationally valuable production. I consulted with Dr. Stephen Buonopane, a bridge engineering expert, to accurately explain how the bridge functioned. Extensive research was conducted using scientific papers and news archives. I wrote a new script with voiceover narration focused on the bridge’s engineering and historical evolution, using the original footage as b-roll to illustrate key aspects of the bridge. The final edit included historical photographs and was refined to ensure a balance between education, entertainment, and accessibility.
Outcomes
The client was amazed at the transformation and praised the revised video as the best in the series because it excelled at meeting learning outcomes through an engaging presentation.
